Honoring Your Passion

Ignoring your true calling creates unhappiness; embracing your passion leads to authenticity in life.

There comes a point in life where you can’t keep ignoring the things that make your heart beat faster. For me, that has always been horses. I once tried to step away, thinking it was the responsible thing to do, but the absence left me hollow. Passion isn’t a frivolity—it’s part of who we are at our core.
There comes a point in life where you can’t keep ignoring the things that make your heart beat faster.
Align With What Calls To You

Training horses has taught me that when we deny this part of ourselves, we don’t just lose joy—we lose authenticity. The best trainers I know allow their passion to fuel persistence. They show up with energy, curiosity, and resilience because they are doing what they were made to do.
So my advice is this: find what calls to you, and answer. It won’t always be easy, but it will always be worth it. If it’s horses, they will thank you for bringing your whole self into the partnership.
"You either have such a love, or you don’t. It seems to be something you’re born with—something in your blood, in your DNA, woven into the fiber of your being. Denying it causes emotional distress and leaves one with the perpetual sense that something is missing in life."

That same pull toward authenticity is part of what led me to write my upcoming book, Finding Purpose: A Life Managing the Passion, Compulsion, and Borderline Addiction Called Horses. This reflection is just a glimpse into that journey — an exploration of what it means to stay true to the fire that drives us, and the journey toward living in alignment with who we truly are.
In the coming months, I’ll be sharing more chapter reflections and excerpts as my book makes it's way out into the world. As I do so, I hope to inspire you to find a deeper connection with your own purpose; to honor your passion.
Do you already know what's calling you? Are you listening?
