Liberty Work with Horses
If you’ve never heard of liberty, think of it as a conversation between horse and human—with no physical equipment connecting them.
At liberty, horses choose to engage because the training is based on 4 important pillars
Relationship & Trust
The horse stays because the partnership feels safe and rewarding.
Subtle Communication
Trainers use body language, posture, breath, and focus (plus agreed-upon cues) to invite movements like circles, changes of direction, stops, lateral steps, and playful maneuvers.
Choice & Responsiveness
Without ropes or halters, the horse’s willingness is front and center. That’s the artistry of a cooperative dance instead of control. You'll likely witness playful moments when horses choose to kick up their heels!
Welfare Forward Methods
Modern liberty emphasizes timing, clarity, and positive experiences to build confidence, not fear.
